So you read all the nitty gritty from my trip to Rome last week, but I know the real question in your brain was “but what skirt did you wear Lottie?” – don’t try and act like you don’t care, I know you do… Anyway, we only had hand luggage which, quite frankly, scared the life out of me.
I knew I needed to find something versatile and low maintenance for packing in hand luggage, but that still looked stylish and (semi) “put together”. It hit me a while ago that I tend to go for dresses over separates most of the time for eases sake, and I wanted to challenge myself to not just take the lazy option. I decided to re-embrace skirts and tops once again. I was lucky enough to be gifted a skirt, some boots and a top, so decided to put them to good use. Here’s how I styled them:
The Denim Skirt and The Black Roll Neck
This is such a classic combo – I felt a bit like a French spy in this get up, classy and stylish in a low key kind of way! This skirt is so versatile (as you’ll see later on) and the structure of the skirt is forgiving, especially on bloaty belly days like in the pictures above – you’d never have guessed, right? The denim isn’t too thick and has stretch so doesn’t feel restrictive but also doesn’t feel cheap and the stone wash is bang on trend. Oh and it has pockets, which is nothing but a bonus!
The black roll neck top is another classic staple item that will literally go with everything in your wardrobe. This particular one is thin, stretchy jersey material and is an absolute joy to wear!
The Tassel Skirt and The Black Roll Neck
On my actual birthday I wanted to dial my daytime look up a notch – enter this incredible tassel skirt from Elvi! The way this skirt moves is mesmerising – I just love how it skates over my curves and how it wiggles in time with my walk.
It’s so simply eye catching and you need very minimum effort for pretty maximum output. The material of the skirt is super soft and it is a joy to wear. Lots of stretch means it is very comfortable to wear and thanks to the tassel placement, it also flatters your stomach area, if that is something you want from your skirts. Teamed with the black roll neck from earlier, and you’ve got a showstopper skirt made easy for the daytime!
The Denim Skirt and The Motif Sweater
Okay so I fully love this entire look. It is the right level of vintage kitsch and modern sass to create a totally unique but very wearable look. I feel like a super cute babe in this outfit!
The jumper is super high quality – the motif is stitched on, it’s not a print, it’s embroidered into the jumper which really ups the luxe factor. The knit itself is lovely and smooth, not at all itchy and comfortably warm without being *too* warm. The three quarter sleeves would be a lot nicer if I had worn a smaller size – I sized up on this and it was the wrong decision. This is very generously sized – I’d say size down for the jumpers from Joanie (I also have another jumper I’m reviewing soon that is just as big, if not more so).
The addition of the belt and the bag to this outfit really makes it pop and gives it the luxury quirk that I like to try and work into my day to day outfits. I’m in love with this new bag – my new every day bag from Aldo – it’s just so easy to wear and style up, and it’s oxblood colouring is super trendy.
