So you might have guessed by the tattoos and general badassery that I am a lover of rock music. In fact, I am a lover of all music but Rock City in Nottingham is where I gained my musical education in my early 20’s and that of course filtered down and influenced my grunge style quite heavily.
Every so often, the grunge look comes back into fashion and I am in my element. Truth be told, I would prefer to be in oversized tops and distressed jeans all my life but I also feel the call of the fashion wild and like to change up my look. Anyway, this season sees the beginning of grunge fashion making a little bit of a comeback and I have created two looks for you. Whether you’re just dipping your toe in or whether you’d like to go all out, I got the style for you!
Mega Grunge Babe
This is the perfect mix of grunge and fashion for me. I love the ripped knee jeans (Evans jeans always fit so nicely!) and the addition of a lovely long tshirt works well too! This particular one is sold out (sorry) but the way it sits off the shoulder works well for a little nod to fashion too. It’s all about wearing items that look distressed or dark and wearing it with attitude! The jeans are a size 24 which are perfect for me right now. I have put on weight over the Christmas period so I am now sitting as pretty much a true size 24. The top I am wearing is also a size 24, but is oversized fit – River Island Plus are fantastic fit wise actually. I hardly ever have to size up!
But what if you don’t want to go the whole grunge way but still want to have a little nod to your inner rock legend? Well, I’ve got you covered there too!
Half Rock, ALL Attitude!
So you want to go to work and look semi profesh, but inside you’re playing Enter Sandman on repeat in your head right? Or maybe you just really like grunge styling but you also want to make it work for you in a more casual way – well, a simple off the shoulder dress like this teamed with leather and a pop of colour can work quite well for you too! The key to this look is in the jacket, and in the attitude of course.
Team with some dark lippy, a dramatic eye and a velvet choker and you’ve got yourself one wearable look my friend! I have worn some brown boots with this to make it a day time look but if you were so inclined and you can wear heels (unlike me) this look would go perfectly with heeled boots or even a pair of court stiletto heel shoes!
