Everyone likes a good browse round Instagram right? I love to look out for other plus size babes and look at fashions from all over the world. Instagram is where I get most of my inspiration from actually, so if you see me stalking your photos by liking things from 3904438983 weeks ago I promise I’m just digging your style (unless you’re my ex, and then I’m just making sure my life is better than yours). Speaking of which, you can find me there too – feel free to follow me @lottielamour and keep up with my random musings and outfit planning (and stalking to see if your life is better than mine)!
Anyway, where was I? Ah yes, Instagram – I saw this INCREDIBLE dress on there. It was so gorgeous. It was prom style (my fave), it was bright, it had a quirky print and it was just delicious – in more ways than one! And this, ladies, is how I met Katrina Parker Frocks!
So Katrina is somewhat of a superstar. Not only has she created an amazing, plus size friendly, food and delight inspired vintage range of clothing, she has also appeared in the American version of The Voice, reaching the Semi-Finals as well as having been on numerous TV shows since AND she’s currently in the middle of making a reality show! PHEW! She is one hot momma!
I contacted Katrina to see if I could bring her incredible clothing over to the shores of good old Blighty and she happily agreed to send me over one of her dresses to choose from! She has some incredible prints, including candy floss and jelly snakes, but I just HAD to have this fantastic pink whoopie pie print dress!
Whoopie Pie in the Sky Dress* – $148.00 (£96.00)
As they’ve described this item on their website, “Are you comfortable with sprinkles? Do you consider white frosting to be a primary food group? Well then, “Whoopie Pie In The Sky” is the dress for you. It’s as rich in flavor as the real thing, and these pies? They can fly.” – I am most definitely comfortable with sprinkles. Most definitely.
But an amazing print isn’t where it ends girls, the quality of this dress is INCREDIBLE. The fabric is so thick and luxurious, it is fully lined, it nips in where it needs to and lets out where it should and…get this…it has POCKETS. POCKETS!!! Every single dress is meticulously hand made (mine was made by Amy, thanks doll!) so that means every dress is a one of a kind. There is no mass production, each garment is made to order. It is 100% worth the price tag which, if you ask me, is incredibly reasonable for a piece of hand made, one of a kind, vintage repro gorgeousness!
Just look at the way this dress nips me in at the waist and hugs my boobs in all the right ways! I love the emphasis this has on my favourite bits whilst hiding the parts I can sometimes feel uncomfortable about. Seriously, this is the best dress I have ever owned. I am so in love. Katrina does her frocks in American sizing – 0X to 4X – and I’m wearing a 3X in this photo (I’d say this is between a UK 20 and UK 22) but you can find her sizing including measurements in Inches over on her size guide. It is definitely worth checking the size before you buy – this dress is 100% cotton fully lined, which means very little stretch!
I teamed this with a pair of white peep toe flat shoes from Accessorize, a white belt I stole off a Lindy Bop dress I have and a black shrug I bought from eBay (off the recommendation of my gorgeous friend Caroline from Curvy Wordy). I would definitely wear this with thick tights and little ankle boots and a chunky knit cardi or black leather jacket to keep this into Autumn.
Now if you’ve fallen in love with this dress just as much as I have, boy have I got a treat for you…
