Invest in You – Investment Pieces to last you the Whole Year

Invest in You – Investment Pieces to last you the Whole Year

I’m a huge fan of “fast fashion”. It plays well to my fickle and impulsive self, picking something cheap and cheerful that suits me for right now – but as I’m growing my fashion eyes (it’s a technical term, promise) I’m realising that I need more solid fashion pieces that not only sort me out now, but will be with me through all the seasons. Plus, I think my bank card needs a rest from the constant shopping I do with it, poor little plastic love!

I want to share with you my favourite investment pieces that I’ve found. Of course with better quality comes higher prices, so don’t expect to see anything here that will be cheap – but this is the point! Spending a bit more now on something that will see me through the seasons is a great investment and a wise use of my money. I’m happy to splash the cash if it’ll be a timeless item that I’ll wear again and again and again…

The Trench Coat

Everyone needs a good coat and the Trench Coat (also affectionately known as the flasher mac in my household, but I promise you the only flashing I do is to my other half – CONSENT IS SEXY) is something that never goes out of style. Every year, these beauties come into rotation and this year is no exception. To make yourself stand out from the crowd, try finding one in an unusual colour or fabric! My fave is this gorgeous blush pink one from Navabi:

The Work Dress

Picture the scene – you have a big presentation/interview/general day at work and you want to look both professional AND bangin’ but you open your wardrobe and see rows upon rows of extremely fashionable but totes not work appropes outfits. CUE PANIC MODE! This is where buying for a long term investment comes in really handy. If you have one go-to dress that is super professional but also makes you feel like a filmstar, you’ll be ready to handle anything. Anna Scholz is the queen of smart dresses, so I had to choose this absolute stunner:

Anna Scholz Tulip Print Jersey Knot Dress – £235.00

The Dressy Dress

Getting invited to a flashy event is always a plus but it can be a right ‘mare to find yourself a hot, posh frock for your night out. It’s tough for a plus size girl to find herself a proper high end cocktail dress, but they do exist – you just have to look for it! I’ve done a bit of the legwork for you and found this incredible dress from Studio 8. Studio 8 nail occasionwear on a regular thanks to being a filter brand from Phase Eight, creators of some of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen. I love this red lace number – super sexy!

Studio 8 Henrietta Dress – £245.00 (ON SALE)

The Denim Delight

Yeah alright, you can get jeans from anywhere and they last quite long but I’m a firm believer of having something super robust that I can dress up or down at a moment’s notice, and I’m more than happy to spend a little bit more cash on getting it. It’s a rare thing to find denim pieces in plus sizes that are premium priced, but again, the best destination for premium wear Navabi has your posh denim down to a T. These slim fit distressed jeans are so gorgeous – I know I can dress them down with metallic trainers and a floaty tee for casual Sundays, and dress them up with barely-there heels and a cami top for a night out!

  2. August 3, 2016 / 3:02 pm

I invest in bags and shoes more than clothes. I get more return on investment on accessories than clothes.

  3. August 3, 2016 / 3:15 pm

I love to splash the cash on a decent handbag and occasionally a dressy dress or a coat

  4. August 3, 2016 / 4:01 pm

Love a good trench coat – I have an Aigle trench coat that is waterproof and approaching 4 years old. Its a complete classic that I wear a lot and during all seasons!

I’m also a fan of a chic black blazer and normally go high end for that – like Jaegar of L. K. Bennett – they can be worn in the office or with jeans and a slouch t-shirt on the weekends.

I love to invest in classic pieces–they’re staples in my wardrobe that stick around for years of use. I completely agree that we all need an elegant dress in our wardrobe and love the one you picked out! The red lace detail is stunning.

Having a 2 year old I tend not to splash cash unless it’s on her. I’m on the look out for a really good pair of shoes for my wide feet though. That red studio 8 dress is amazing!!

I haven’t been able to justify it yet, but I fully intend to drop a big wedge of cash on a beautiful designer handbag one day! x

The trench is a total must have, I have a few and wear them to death.

  11. August 4, 2016 / 12:58 am

It’s true that higher end products tend to ignore larger sizes, but I am in total agreement about studio 8. I have some pieces from them and Elvi but it’s good to mix fast fashion with classics!

  12. August 5, 2016 / 12:24 pm

I prefer long lasting pieces instead of fast fashion. That trench looks amazing, it’s so chic and pretty.

  13. August 6, 2016 / 1:13 am

Totally agree on these must have pieces but I would add blazer to the list. It’s so versatile and looks great on everyone! Great list.
