Fat Girl On Holiday – Live Your Best Life

So I’ve shown you a few fashion pieces from River Island Plus on this blog post, but contrary to popular belief my holiday wasn’t just fancy dresses and posing…promise. I went on holiday to let go of stress and find my inner badass.

Just like pretty much EVERY FEMALE I KNOW, I was worried about going on holiday and how I would look around the pool with my wobbly bits out. Yep, even me. As body positive or fat positive as I am, I still get those moments that make me feel a little bit edgy around people I don’t know wearing things I know do not allow me to modify the way I look. But, saying that, I’m lucky in that I have a fantastic group of friends and family that help me to push through that doubt.

I wanted to just let go on holiday. I wanted to stop worrying and throw caution to the wind. I’m a nervous flyer, so before I went on holiday I read a book called Flying with Confidence to help me to get over that fear. It included some calming techniques that can be applied to all areas of life and so I did just that. With every breath in, I welcomed calm into my life. With every breath out, I oozed relaxation. And just like that, I found my groove.

You might be worried about what to wear around the pool if you’re a fat chick like me. You can cover up, or you can just let loose – whatever allows you to live your best life. In fact, this blog post is about just that, living your best life. For me, to allow me to be truly happy, I challenge myself to push through my fears and do what people don’t expect. That means I push to be rebellious, I wear things people think I shouldn’t and I give off a bit of a eff-you persona. For others, the way to live your best life might be to wear clothes that hide away the bits you don’t like and behave in a way that doesn’t attract attention to yourself. That’s all fine too – whatever allows you to live your best life.

I wore a bikini around the pool. I wore short dresses. I covered up. I did what I needed to do to feel good about myself. And guess what? I did. I felt good, no one laughed at me, no one called me names – I just felt good. Believe me when I say that most people are so worried about how they look, they don’t notice anyone else around the pool. In fact, I noticed more bigger women looking incredible and living their best lives than I did seeing people wanting the ground to swallow them up. Remember, you have gone on holiday to relax, so you need to do whatever it is that lets you do just that.

So don’t worry about what others think. Don’t stress if you aren’t ready to wear bikinis yet. Don’t panic if you need to talk yourself into wearing something you normally wouldn’t. There is no right or wrong way to go on holiday. There is no expectation on you as a fat woman to act in any particular way. Just do whatever it is that you need to do to live your best life!

  1. Okay so not only am I now redonkulously jealous of the holiday itself, but you’ve now given me the urge to go out and buy every self help book there is so I can live my best life too. ❤
