You know by now that I love a good selfie. There’s no need to pretend any more, I am obsessed with myself. It makes a nice change from all the hating myself I did when I was younger, so just let me do me, alright?! The gorgeous Lucie from LucieLovesIt and I went on a mini shopping trip to Monki and Selfridges to try on Beth Ditto‘s range before committing to making a purchase and this post is the journey of that day!
Now I’ve done Monki clothing online before – I own a couple of oversize items from there (a Large comfortably fits a size 22 frame, FYI) – but I had never gone into the store and tried things on in person. I was super looking forward to seeing the clothes in person and being able to make an informed decision as to whether or not it would work on my body. Being a fat girl trying to figure out if a straight sized garment will fit her is a hard task at the best of times, but thankfully I had my partner in crime Lucie with me!
My two picks from Monki are as follows:
So high neck things are not my thing. I would love to be able to feel comfortable in a high neck item but I find it too constricting and like it pushes my double chin forward which ain’t a look that I’m after. BUT saying that, the Jonna dress is incredible in that print. The Large was actually…dare I say it… TOO big on me but the neck was very small so I felt too restricted. The black shirt dress was a DREAM. It’s a jersey material and had pleating on the back which meant it had a lovely movement to it. Unfortunately they only had this in an XS and a S. Believe it or not, this is the Small – yes, my size 22 frame fit just fine into this! Girls with smaller boobs will find this very very comfortable, but unfortunately my wabs just didn’t want to stay inside.
In my earlier post (read it HERE) I mentioned Beth Ditto’s new range to be one of my ones to watch for this year. I wouldn’t be a bad ass blogger if I didn’t go and actually TRY ON the items now would I? So we hot footed it over to Selfridges. Here’s what we tried on:
Dress – As before
Dress – As before
Both Lucie and I tried on the same size in the Double Bubble dress by Beth Ditto. I’m a size 20-22, and Lucie is a 22-24 and this dress is a 24-26. It was roomy on me, so much so that the little belt that comes with it could have wrapped around me twice – amazing news for people who are above a size 22 who need more choices (well done Beth!). I would have preferred to wear it without the belt, but it looked too big on my frame. I think this looked loads better on Lucie who’s curves filled it a lot better than mine did, and it makes her boobs look INCREDIBLE! The silk fabric used to make this dress is SO luxurious and feels incredible on and the clever stitching and gathering made this flattering to wear on both of us!
Skirt and top – As Before
This skirt and top combo was incredible. The skirt nips you in at the waist with a wide waistband that sits high on your torso, but the oversize draped pockets are the showstopper on this item – sitting just on your hips, giving you a vintage shape! The t-shirt version of the dress is also beautiful and the bright print against the dark skirt was a nice touch.
My two other faves from the collection were this incredible waffle material monochrome structured midi dress and this luxurious silk jumpsuit. I felt incredible in both of them! The structure of the dress again played to the classic hourglass shape and created curves and shape where I didn’t think I had any. The jumpsuit felt so soft and smooth on my skin and I was in love with the relaxed harem drape on the leg – team this with some killer heels and a statement clutch and I would be in HEAVEN!
Not all the pieces were on show in Selfridges which was a real disappointment. We really struggled to find the range in store too as most people working there didn’t know what we were talking about – bad form Selfridges! This is no reflection on the pieces themselves – their price tag is well and truly worth the luxury fabrics and cut of the items. I was completely enamoured with the whole collection!
Tell me what your fave pieces are! Are you inspired to do your own shopping trip?
